About the Branch

The Tribunal Support Branch provides research, project management and administrative support to Commission Members. Staff members coordinate the day-to-day support in Members’ Chambers, undertake specialist workplace relations and economic research and assist with managing large statutory reviews, such as of modern awards and the minimum wage. In addition, they perform analysis of draft enterprise agreements and provide research for individual Members.

Description of Role

Associates perform a full range of professional support services for Commission Members. An Associateship at the Commission is a unique opportunity to learn firsthand about Australia’s workplace relations system and to work closely with Commission Members.


Duties
1. Consistent with the Commission’s performance planning and management arrangements, an Associate will flexibly undertake responsibilities associated with:

• the administration/operation of a Member’s office, using Commission information technology and communications facilities and systems, particularly the Case Management System (CMS+).
• formal preparation and publication to the website of listed matters, documents,
orders and decisions as set out in the Commission Publishing guides.
• legal research in the field of labour law and workplace relations.
• clerk of court functions in Commission hearings and preparation of hearing rooms.
• general administrative/executive assistant duties including networked diary controls, preparation and maintenance of Commission files, proofreading, travel bookings, etc.
• maintenance and securing of all books, records, papers, files and reference material.
• provide relief associate support to other Members and otherwise assist the Tribunal Support Branch as needed.

2. Liaise, as required, with Commission Members and staff, workplace relations practitioners, employers, employees, employer and employee bodies (including their representatives and officials), legal practitioners and other parties (including unrepresented parties).

3. Travel with a Member when required.

4. When not allocated to a specific Member, or in any other circumstances, as directed, assist other Associates or Commission staff with work to ensure achievement of national work standards and targets.

5. Perform other duties as directed by the Tribunal Support Coordinator and/or the Assistant Director, Member Support.
