Experienced Industrial Officer specialising in International Aviation & FRMS

The FAAA, a specialist and federally registered union, champions the industrial and workplace safety interests of domestic and international aircraft cabin crew across Australia. As we expand our advocacy efforts nationally and globally, we seek an experienced industrial officer to join our dynamic team at Mascot. This critical role involves developing and leading initiatives to enhance labour relations, manage union partnerships, and advocate for aviation workers' rights on an international scale.

Key Responsibilities

- Enterprise Bargaining: Negotiate with employers and government bodies to secure favourable terms for our members.

- Global Labor Strategies: Lead the development and implementation of strategies that promote sustainable practices and worker welfare, mainly focusing on fatigue and risk management.

- Understanding and experience with Fatigue risk management systems (FRMS) and safe fast reporting .

- International Advocacy: Represent the FAAA in prominent forums, including the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the International Labour Organization (ILO), to influence policy changes and enhance labour standards.

- Education and Training: Develop and facilitate workshops and training sessions tailored to the unique challenges faced by cabin crew members, addressing critical issues such as worker fatigue, mental health, and safety standards.

- Research and Policy Development: Oversee initiatives to identify and address emerging issues that impact labour conditions in the aviation industry, ensuring our strategies reflect the latest global trends and crises.

- Public Representation: Serve as the organisation's spokesperson, engaging with media and stakeholders to raise awareness and support for international labour relations issues.

- Member Support: Provide direct support and representation for individual members in investigations, disputes, or grievances, ensuring their rights are protected and voices heard.

Qualifications:

- Experience: At least 5 years in labour relations or a closely related role, preferably within the aviation sector. Experience as cabin crew is highly advantageous.

- Skills: Exceptional leadership, communication, and negotiation skills are essential. The candidate should possess robust analytical abilities for effective research and policy development.

- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Labour Relations, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in employment law, international relations, or negotiation are highly desirable.

- Characteristics: A proven track record of managing complex campaigns and projects, particularly those related to enhancing worker welfare and safety. A solid commitment to union values and the ability to empathise with the challenges faced by aviation personnel.
