The Committee is being established to provide advice on the needs of people affected by serious work-related incidents. The Committee will provide advice to the Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations and Commonwealth work health and safety regulators about the needs of people affected by workplace incidents involving death, serious injury or illness.

We are looking for applications for both the Co-Chair and member positions (lived experience positions)

We are seeking applicants who are prepared to work collaboratively as a team; will respect and maintain the confidentiality of sensitive discussions; and can draw on their lived experiences to provide views and feedback on government processes, policies and systems.

Key duties of the Co-Chair position include:

• Provide leadership for the Committee, and work collaboratively with the Second Co-Chair

• Set meeting agendas, settle papers and develop the Committee’s workplan

• Give effect to the Committee’s governance and legal obligations, where appropriate

• Use own experience and/or expertise to identify system-level issues that are likely to impact affected persons and propose appropriate reforms to address the identified issues

• Represent the Committee in discussions with the Commonwealth, the workplace safety
regulators or other parties

Key duties of the member positions include:


• Use own experience to identify issues and make recommendations about how to best
support people after a serious workplace incident and how processes and practices could
be improved

• Represent the Committee in discussions with workplace safety regulators or other parties

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for the roles of Committee member and/or lived-experience Co-Chair, applicants must have lived-experience of being impacted by a serious workplace incident that resulted in serious workplace injury, illness or fatality.

You will be either a:

• person who has, or has had a serious workplace injury or illness

• family member or carer of a person:

o who has been killed in a workplace incident, or

o has, or has had, a serious workplace injury or illness

• person who has been affected, directly or indirectly, by a serious work-related incident
suffered by another person (for example a co-worker).
